CHAPTER TEN

CARLYLE

I turned around and gasped when Jade was nowhere to be found. I searched through the party and still couldn't find her. Everyone had gone back to chatting with each other as if the scene Ramona caused never happened.

I had a suspicion she could be in the ladies room and I made my way there. I knew I wouldn't be able to enter but I nursed a hope in my heart that I would be able to see a lady that was just about to enter and ask her to check if Jade was in there.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I whirled back, thinking it could be Jade who found me.

My smile froze on my lips as I saw the person who tapped me. "Hey, Brandon." I said, forcing the smile back on my lips. Brandon was one of my childhood friends and it had been a long while since I saw him. He didn't deserve to be scowled at no matter how shitty my mood was at the moment.

He laughed, having caught on to my initial expression. "Not the person you were expecting, I guess."

"I'm sorry," I muttered an apology to him, moving closer to hug him.

He returned the embrace, hitting me lightly at the back. "So good to see you again, man," he laughed.

"I agree," I nodded. "How are you doing?"

"Great." He smiled at me. "I would have asked how you are doing but I think the short drama we had out there earlier summarized how things have been going with you." He chuckled. "Your life is shit, man."

I groaned. "You can say that again."

I better not meet Ramona at my parents' house, whining in their ears like a frustrated wife and trying to get their pity after the nonsense she pulled here. I was going to strangle and break her slim neck with my bare hands if I found her at their house.

He patted me on the shoulder. "You’ll be fine, bro."

I nodded. "Thanks," I replied, searching around for Jade.

"Have you heard what Ethan is doing recently?" Brandon asked.

My attention was piqued. I frowned. Even though Brandon spent his days moving in and out of the country, he had intel on most companies in the country.

"What is he planning to do?" I asked, leaning towards him.

He motioned to me to get closer and whispered in my ears. "His pharmaceutical company has been developing highly narcotic pain relievers which will be released to the public soon."

I gasped. "That is crazy."

He nodded and continued. "I found out about this from a reliable source. My source is one of the lab scientists who is part of the research team working on the development of the drugs."

"Fucking Ethan!" I cursed.

He stared at me, eyes narrowed. "What are you going to do with this information?"

Jade walked out of the restroom and turned, walking the opposite direction when she saw me. Her eyes were red and my heart clenched at the realization that she had spent the last few minutes crying her heart out.
